Many residents of the State of Texas have come to appreciate the feeling of safety that comes with obtaining a Texas license to carry a firearm. This feeling is generated from the knowledge that should a dangerous situation present itself to the holder of the license to carry a firearm, he or she will be able to protect himself or herself. The knowledge that a person will be reasonably capable of protecting themselves rather than have to rely upon law enforcement or some other good Samaritan is no small or insignificant benefit. In fact it could be argued that it is one of the most important benefits a person can ever obtain in a free society.
Other Benefits Deriving from a Texas License to Carry
There are many other benefits besides the feeling of safety that will also accrue to the holder of a license to carry a firearm in the state of Texas. These benefits include but are not limited to the following: (1) the holder of a license to carry can spend time at a firing range, (2) the holder of a license to carry can protect his or her friends, neighbors, family or other people he or she might run into who are in a state of distress caused by an attacker.
The right to obtain a license to carry in the state of Texas of course derives from the second amendment to the U. S. Constitution. This amendment has been interpreted to allow for a “right to bear arms” that “shall not be infringed” by the U. S. Congress through legislation. Of course the second amendment also refers to a “well regulated militia” but this language is typically not considered in the debate related to the control of the sale of guns in the United States of America.
